Your company’s
marketing department plans to acquire 150 new computers and monitors, plus
several new printers. The marketing vice president has asked you to lead a
three-person project team assigned to define user computer hardware needs. Who
else (role, department) would you select to be a member of the team? How would
you go about defining user’s needs? Do you think that one hardware configuration
(computer, monitor and printer) would meet everyone’s needs? Should you define
multiple configurations based on the needs of various classes of end user? What
business justification can you define substantiate this expenditure of roughly
$300,000?
I appreciate that your company had
chose us to improve and install some hardware and software to your department.
But firstly, I would like to suggest in adding one more member to my group
because I need:-
- · Design rooms to fit all 150 computers (tables, cabinet, outlets, switch, etc)
- · Specialist to choose what type of computer to use.
- · To install software to all 150 computers, example Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc
- · To install hardware into the room.
Specialist to
calculate the cost of all hardware and software (accountant)
In
my opinion, students need to have their own specific personal computer, which
means it would be different from the staff and lecturers personal computers.
For instance, the administration worker would need a standard personal computer
because they would only use the computer software such as Microsoft Word or
even Excel. But the student would use Adobe flash reader which requires high
computer specification.
Multimedia.
In a Multimedia room, it would need a more specific hardware and software.
Therefore, it would be our job to define what other type of hardware that we
need to introduce into the room. So
we would like to suggest this kind of computer for the multimedia room:
The XPS 8500
delivers uncompromising performance for creating at your best. With full
multitasking capabilities and commanding performance, the XPS 8500 features a
premium fit and finish, powerful performance graphics and processor options,
and large storage and memory capabilities.
The computer’s specs
Processor
· TypeIntel 3rd Gen Core i7 i7-3770 /
3.4 GHz

· Storage
· Hard Drive1000 GB - 7200 rpm

Multiple
configurations should be emphasized because I understand that in this college,
there are at least 3 level of education. Therefore I would like to make 3
configurations, for instance; HND, ND and PND.
From our specialist in doing the
balance sheet, the $300 000 would be suffice because we have a good deal with a
supplier who can provide cheap computer table. The table is quite stable so do
not worry about the quality. He estimated that all of the expenses would be
roughly about $275 000.
