Case Study 2 - Question 4

How has open-source SOA systems provided DreamWorks with a unique edge over its competition?

Service-oriented Architectures (SOA) is a set of methodologies for constructing and designing software in the form of interoperable services (interoperable means to work together). SOA requires compatible service and applications to be effective while the metadata must be understandable by all system designers.

With this method, Dreamworks are to perform tasks like tracking copyrights and access human resource data. Doing so will keep them updated with the flows and activities involved to their products. The risk of their production getting illegally distributed will be set to a minimum, giving them advantage when their competitors are handling pirates and copyright issues.

It is also one of the simplest and cheapest method available. SOA implementation is easy as developers and designers are familiar with the core mechanics of the technology. Advanced classes to study the principles are not so necessary. This results to less need to propose major tasks to high classed development team. Task will be held easier among analyst and designers and low chance of mistakes will occur.

In conclusion, this method proves to be an effective and agile for programme management.
There might be no limit to its expansion as how it is able to evolve from new developing standards, how improvements are more focused on delivering good service in application, process information and people.
