How have online retailers such as amazon.com affected
change in traditional brick-and-mortar businesses such as Sears?
Brick-and-mortar business is a face to face meeting
between 2 or more parties related with the transaction of the business. This
type of system is outdated ever since E-commerce is practiced by a lot of
business firms.
Online retailers like amazon.com or ebay.com, proved to
be quite effective when it comes to advertising products. New technologies and
modern standard of living puts the majority of population to gain access to the
internet may it be in cyber cafes of home computers. Consumers or business
firms can now search for their desired items to be bought online, without
meeting their clients. This system is very efficient in many ways, but most
notably the variety of choices for items available through websites.
Businesses using brick-and-mortar system are still
plausible when it comes to buying daily necessities in convenient stores or
direct meeting with consumers for example. Their advertisements totally depended
on radios and newspapers, in which only locals are reached. This is a major
setback for the firm to be unheard by potential clients. This is why these
companies are slowly declining. Sears, for example, lacking of sales have
closed down a number of their marts and stores for solely practicing the
traditional method.
In summary, online
business excels well compared to the old fashioned way in terms of advertising,
area of access and public’s preference.
