Case Study 2 - Question 2


What price did DreamWorks have to pay for adopting systems that were not standard to the motion picture animation industry?

Open Source refers to a program or software in which source code (program that been create by a programmer in a particular programming language) is available for use or modification to be published for public with no charge will be taken. It is also a standard certificate that mark own by the open source initiative (OSI) that specify source code is available made for free of charge for public (customers). Open Source does not just access to source code. The distribution term must be complying with the following criteria.

1)    Price.

·         Most of open source software are available with no charges to be taken leading to the command term that used in the software named “free software”.

2)    Flexibility
·         Able to run open source software well on the old hardware.

3)    Interoperability
Open source software is better at adhering to open standards than others software. 


4)    Hardware support
·         Open source software can compressed and easily portable without taking much effort on downloading the files.

5)    No license fees
·         Enables open source to install in numerous time without tracking, monitoring and license observance

6)    Quality
·         Because of source code is available when using the open source software, most of the software is well-made. It is also useful used in coding.

      7)    Higher level in Security
·         Since open source software is for public and can be looked the code. The source code only contains its function and logic. All the privacy information is safely stored on user’s server.
