Case Study 5 - Question 4

If cost were not an issue, describe the characteristics of your ideal computer. What would you use it for? Would you choose a handheld, portable, desktop, or workstation computer? Why?

The most important characteristics of a computer that will satisfy me are good graphic card, storage and communication availability. For me, as gamer, needs a computer installed with a decent graphic card. This allows the computer to maintain high frame rate per second when dealing with an advanced graphic quality games. The latest it is, the more capable it will afford to handle the games. I will have no more worries regarding low frames, which is quite frustrating. As for storage, I’d have my ideal computer to have a very large storage capacity. I hate deleting old data and files I might need in the future. It would be good for keeping loads of movies and games. Copying or installing games are troublesome. To my estimation, a 1petabyte storage capacity will be more than enough to keep all movies I wish to keep. And lastly, would be communication. My ideal computer must have access to all communication programs. An example of one program would be Skype. I’d like my computer to keep me and my family and friends in touch, sharing videos and news. If possible, a more advanced program only compatible to be used on my computer is included.

For this multipurpose computer, I rather have it as a laptop. Though not as small as a phone, laptops are still portable and worth carrying around. I can bring my laptop to my bedroom, to the living room, kitchen, everywhere as I please without anyone to help me carry. Like during holidays, I sleepover at a friend, bringing my laptop there to play games with them. Phones or tablets are too small to enjoy movies, while desktops and workstations are not portable enough to be carried.

As mentioned a couple of times in my summary, I’d use my ideal computer for movies and games. In my opinion, these are what makes a computer enjoyable.
